The MSG-187 Space Weather Environmental Modeling Workshop, conducted in a hybrid mode at CMDR COE on 28-29 September 2023, concluded with remarkable success. The event was attended by experts and key stakeholders from the field of space weather modelling and environmental impact assessment.

Opening the workshop, COL Orlin Nikolov delivered insightful opening remarks and provided a comprehensive overview of the agenda, setting the stage for two days of intensive discussions and collaboration.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the participation of Dr. Volker Wilken, a distinguished representative of the German Aerospace Center, Institute for Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SO), Department for Space Weather Impact. Mr. Wilken's presence at CMDR COE underscored the global importance of space weather research and its impacts on various sectors. During the workshop was explored advancements in hardware and software design, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the modelling capabilities required for space weather research.

Experts exchanged ideas on improving data visualization and graphical representations to enhance the accessibility and understanding of complex space weather data.

Participants collaboratively identified the next steps and action items needed to advance space weather modelling and environmental impact assessment.

Discussions centred on the enhancement of technical architecture, with a focus on optimizing the tools and infrastructure used in space weather research.

The workshop addressed the long-term vision and development roadmap for space weather modelling, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness.

Internal CMDR COE Seminar on the Crisis in Syria

The CMDR COE organised an internal seminar which was held on 20.12.2013. The main focus of the seminar was the crisis in Syria. The CMDR COE experts discussed issued related to the chronology of the crisis; the increased influx of refugees to neighbouring countries and Bulgaria; the positions of NATO, the UN and EU; the involvement of international humanitarian organisations etc.

Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships was conducted

On 11-12 December 2013, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) co-hosted together with US European Command (USEUCOM) and the US embassy in Bulgaria the workshop Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships. The opening remarks were given by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Bulgaria, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, who welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the topics that the workshop focused on.
