The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) in cooperation with the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) conducted a Lessons Identified Conference for the EADRCC Exercise Ukraine 2015 in Sofia on 25-27 January, 2016.

The Lessons Identified Conference brought together representatives of various NATO Directorates, offices and agencies, European Union Structures, JALLC, US Army, Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, as well as experts from 26 nations (ROM,BiH,USA,GEO,AZE,DEU,ALB,BEL,GBR,DEN,ARM,NOR,FIN,CHE,SWE,AUT,UKR,JAP,SWE,MNE,NOR,ITA,CAN,MOL,LAT,POL.

The event serves as a continuation and striving for improvement of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre Consequence Management, Command-Post and Field Exercise Ukraine 2015 held on 21-24 September. The exercise was jointly organized by the EADRCC and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The large-scale event brought together more than 1100 experts. The exercise aim was to increase interoperability and to support the establishment of a positive dialogue, predominately offering opportunities to partners from PfP, Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Initiative. It is worth mentioning the High Representation during the opening ceremony namely The President of Ukraine – Mr. Petro Poroshenko and NATO Secretary General – Mr. Jens Stoltenberg.

There are always challenges faced in meeting the goals and demands of an exercise. The participants in the Conference after very fruitful discussion supported proposed evaluations and define a lot of issues in order to seeking constructive ways to improve future exercises. Throughout the challenges in this exercise, all participating teams demonstrated a high level of energy and enthusiasm that promoted a highly cooperative environment for the entire exercise.

CMDR COE’s involvement in the organization and participation in the Lessons Identified Conference for the EADRCC Exercise Ukraine 2015, as well as its taking part in the exercise is a clear sign that the Centre is gaining foothold and is becoming recognized as a valuable contributor in the crisis management/disaster response domain.
