On the 17 February 2021, representatives from the Capital Directorate of Fire Safety and Protection of the Population, led by the Senior Commissioner Veselin Getov paid a visit to the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE). The great occasion was the announcement of the Award Firefighter of Year 2020 presented by the Directorate in appreciation of the distinguished contribution of CMDR COE team to the prevention of disasters and contribution to protection of the population, especially in the demanding COVID-19 pandemic.
The presented simulation model was highly appreciated and the idea of the Directorate management is to be popularized among municipalities, and to implement the product developed by Operational Lab Team, not only on the regional level, but also nationally widespread.
The Director Colonel Orlin Nikolov, on behalf of the entire staff, expressed his gratitude for the honour and acknowledgment of services, and assured that the efforts of the Centre will continuously contribute to the settled mission and vision. As one of the key of achieved success is the policy of independent and objective analyses aiming to provide the authorities real picture of the disaster management. Presentation on current projects, programme of work and courses was provided to the attention of the guests.
Lieutenant Colonel Kostadin Lazarov, Head of the Operational Lab, presented the simulation model on which his section works. Enthusiastically and with passion he demonstrated the capabilities of the system, possible implementation and access to the key-players in disaster management and prevention.
The discussions were truly fruitful and the announced common goals will definitely lead to beneficial collaboration. Practical steps for future cooperation were reviewed and welcomed with enthusiasm by both sides.
Such an award is a great honour and exclusive responsibility for the CMDR COE team.
