CMDR COE Supports Radiological Incident Response Course in Bucharest
Date: (17-05-2026)
From 11 to 15 May 2026, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) supported the delivery of the Disaster Response and Consequence Management for a Radiological Incident course at the premises of Romania’s Protection and Guard Service in Bucharest. This iteration formed part of the CMDR COE course portfolio and brought together a joint team of experts from the United States Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, including its Office of Nuclear Incident Policy and Cooperation, the United States Defence Threat Reduction Agency, Romania’s Protection and Guard Service, and CMDR COE.
Throughout the week, the course combined expert presentations with demonstrations, group work, tabletop activities, and practical exercises. Participants enhanced their understanding of radiation hazards, crisis management phases, protective actions, environmental sampling, responder health and safety, mission planning, and modelling and simulation.
The successful delivery of the training highlighted the value of strong international cooperation and practical, hands-on learning. It also reaffirmed CMDR COE’s ongoing contribution to building preparedness, interoperability, and readiness for radiological incident response.
