Cultural Property Protection Course in MPFSEE

The residential course Cultural Property Protection/CPP was held from 7 to 9 November 2023 in the Multinational Peace Forces South Eastern Europe/MPFSEE (known also as South Eastern Europe Brigade/SEEBRIG), based in Kumanovo, Republic of North Macedonia
This educational event was attended by representatives from Nucleus Staff of SEEBRIG HQ and representatives from municipality of Kumanovo. The lectures were presented in collaboration with: United Service Institution of India; American University of Iraq, Suleimani and US Naval War College.
The aim of the course was to explore the main concepts and theoretical issues associated with CPP and the role of military in response to the increasing awareness within NATO and other international organizations of the importance of cultural heritage as one of the foundations of world civilization and the need to design new modes of CPP. The course explored the key concepts related to CPP as well as the overarching disaster response framework and some political, social, cognitive, and gender factors that have shaped various approaches to CPP.
