27th Environmental protection (EP) Working Group

CMDR COE representatives took part in the 27th Environmental protection (EP) Working Group, (under the Military Committee Joint Standardization Board, which reports to the Military Committee) conducted in the NATO HQ in Brussels. The EPWG aims to reduce possible harmful impacts of military activities on the environment by developing NATO policies, standardization documents, guidelines and best practices in the planning and implementation of operations and exercises.
Many member and PfP nations, NATO COEs, NATO agencies, EU agencies and representatives of NATO bodies took part in the meeting. The delegates provided detailed information regarding EP standards and publications status as well as the level of their implementation. In addition the member nations shared their EP-related experience, challenges and activities.
CMDR COE presented its contribution to the Bulgarian Armed Forces Climate Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan development as well as the initiatives conducted by the COE, relevant to the EP topic as participation in projects with practical implications as MSG - 187 – Space Weather Environmental Modelling (SWEM) and the developed by the COE Operational Laboratory predictive models, platform for solar monitoring Ground-based Remote Other-space Observation Terminal (GROOT), and MSG – 221 – M&S in support of building resilience and management of people mass movement, conducting of courses with incorporated EP thematic as - Cultural Property Protection course and Resilience through Civil Preparedness course as well as the cooperation with the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), and offering of the "Climate Change and Security course.
