The Ninth meeting of CMDR COE Steering Committee

The Chairman of the Steering Committee, Lieutenant General Dimitar Iliev, Deputy Chief of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, opened the 9th SC meeting, held on 20-21 October 2021 in the CMDR COE facility in Sofia, Bulgaria. In his opening remarks, Lieutenant General Dimitar Iliev welcomed the representative from the Framework Nation, the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as the representatives from the Sponsoring Nations, namely the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Poland, and Romania, to the meeting. Lieutenant General Iliev highlighted the great success of the fruitful collaboration between the Framework and Sponsoring Nations of CMDR COE. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Steering Committee congratulated the CMDR COE for maintaining the high quality standards of its courses, seminars, conferences tests and experiments by successfully adapting to the novel challenges, posed by the current global pandemic.
Alongside Steering Committee members who represented the Framework and the Sponsoring Nations, at the 9th Steering Committee meeting a representative from NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT) was present as an advisor, while representatives from Hungary, the Republic of Poland, and the Republic of North Macedonia were present as observers. As such, they were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the activities and projects carried out by CMDR COE, and to actively engage in discussions about current trends in the crisis management and disaster response domain. Moreover, proposals concerning the collective responsibility of the Framework and Sponsoring Nations were discussed in order to further enhance the quality of services provided by CMDR COE.
During the 9th Steering Committee meeting the CMDR COE Budget for 2022 and Programme of Work (POW) 2022 were approved by the SC members.

The CMDR COE organised an internal seminar which was held on 20.12.2013. The main focus of the seminar was the crisis in Syria. The CMDR COE experts discussed issued related to the chronology of the crisis; the increased influx of refugees to neighbouring countries and Bulgaria; the positions of NATO, the UN and EU; the involvement of international humanitarian organisations etc.
» read moreOn 11-12 December 2013, the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) co-hosted together with US European Command (USEUCOM) and the US embassy in Bulgaria the workshop Visualizing Implications of Climate Change on Military Activities and Relationships. The opening remarks were given by the Deputy Minister of Defence of Bulgaria, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, who welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the topics that the workshop focused on.
