Disaster Relief in CSDP Context Course

Date: (18-07-2025)
From 16th till 18th of July in Bucharest was conducted a course dedicated to Disaster Relief in CSDP Context, organized under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College, in a good cooperation between the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence, the Diplomatic Institute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, the Department for Emergency Situation of the Romanian Ministry of Interior, the Romanian National College of Home Affairs and the host of the course - the University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest.
The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with the process of disaster relief as part of the whole chain of the disaster management – from prevention/preparedness, humanitarian assistance, civilian protection to post-disaster reconstruction/recovery, including the development of critical capabilities and situational awareness in relation to tackling emergencies.
Disaster relief is a very relevant topic nowadays, especially within the context of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, Middle East but also in other areas of the world. It refers to the process of responding to a catastrophic situation; and providing humanitarian aid to persons and communities who have suffered from some form of disaster. It involves dealing with and avoiding risks and preparing, supporting, and rebuilding society when natural or human-made disasters occur. In another prospective, disaster relief is the money or services made available to individuals and communities that have experienced tremendous losses due to disasters leading to a major disruption of the social pattern of those individuals and groups.
