Inspiring workshop

On April 28th, an inspiring workshop took place between students from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and the Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence CMDR COE, titled “Contemporary Crisis Management in Times of Great Power Competition”.
It was a real pleasure to welcome so many bright and ambitious students, led by Assoc. Prof. Iskren Ivanov, who delivered insightful presentations on key global challenges, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, tensions between Taiwan and China in the Asia-Pacific region, Russia’s nuclear posture amid the war in Ukraine, and the political dimensions of climate change.
The experts from CMDR COE contributed their operational perspective, sharing valuable knowledge on:
• Crisis Management – Fundamentals – NATO’s Point of View
• Disaster Management and Disaster Risk Assessment as Elements to Enhance Resilience
• Building Layered Resilience with a Focus on Societal Resilience
Throughout the day, students and experts engaged in dynamic discussions, reflecting on how today's crises are interconnected and how future leaders must approach them with resilience, innovation, and cooperation.
In times of complex global competition and instability, events like this workshop are vital to preparing the next generation of leaders.
