Successful hybrid iteration of the Climate Change and Security Course

Another successful iteration of the Climate Change and Security course took place from 05 to 08 April 2022 on the CMDR COE premises in Sofia, and online. The course was conducted under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) and in collaboration with the Diplomatic Institute to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. The course is tailored to cover essential topics related to the global warming and the role it plays as a threat multiplier, the impact of climate change on public health, international peace and security, and the necessity of an integrated approach to addressing the challenges posed to climate and security.
During the course, participants from Algeria, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America took part in thought-provoking discussions, exchanged good practices and broadened their knowledge of the topic. There was an active participation on behalf of representatives and lecturers, involved in climate change mainstreaming policy development, civilian protection, disaster protection and humanitarian assistance, from NATO Member States, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, and Partners across the Globe. Alongside insightful lectures on the abovementioned topics, the course included a specialized Strategy Game on Climate Change. In conclusion, the course objectives were successfully achieved and the participants expressed their overall satisfaction with the event.
