Transatlantic Security Jam: Securing the Post-COVID19 Future

Transatlantic Security Jam: Securing the Post-COVID19 Future

Date: (04-05-2020)

The virtual conference will be held completely online from Tuesday, May 12th, from 15:00 CET (09:00 EST) continuously until Thursday, May 14th, at 17:00 CET (11:00 EST).  Everyone in our defense and security community is welcome to participate – it is a whole of government and whole of society approach; access to a web browser is all that is required.

Like a regular conference there will be multiple forums, lots of “speakers” making written interventions, interactive polls, and dynamic discussions, but unlike a normal conference the “Jam” platform courtesy of IBM analyses thousands of posted interactions to continuously propose the most active and well-supported ideas back into the debates to spiral the interactions into higher order outcomes, which means that by the end of the event the best ideas for going forward are easily identified as are the most pertinent arguments.  A comprehensive report will summarize the outcomes for our use.

A very big advantage of holding this virtual conference now is that most of our colleagues will still be working from home with the time, space and technology to participate fully.

PURPOSE:   To engage the Transatlantic Security and Defense Community to:

  • Think together about the security environment in the pandemic / post-pandemic world
  • Anticipate the challenges going forward and discuss possible approaches
  • Further develop lessons observed into workable recommendations
  • Share ideas and best practices; highlight positive outcomes
  • Brainstorm our next steps together as a community

Register:  The registration link will be provided Tuesday; one week before the start.

Arrange VIP “Jammers”:   If you would like your Minister, Deputy Minister, State Secretary, CHOD or other notable person to participate, please send me their name, short CV, their available dates and times to join the Jam as well as the Forum and topic on which they would like to intervene:  michael.c.ryan9.civ@mail.mil

Arrange Your Own VIP Jam Session:  This Jam will really help Defense Policy Directors provide perspective, gain unique insights and generate positive ideas, so please do join the Jam early and often, but let’s also schedule each of you as a VIP Jammer so that people will know when you want to lead a conversation.  Again, send me your short CV, your available dates and times to join the Jam as well as the Forum and topic on which you would like to intervene:  michael.c.ryan9.civ@mail.mil   (via your DATT is OK too).
